BRIDGE Scope

The Project scope

BRIDGE envisages a breakthrough in the data sharing among the intermodal freight stakeholders in the new digital era imposed by new policy and digital initiatives such as the new TSI Telematics and Data Act. Such improved and enhanced data sharing was already theoretically possible under the current TAF TSI as published on 26 March 2021, but as yet the new features were not widely known and await implementation.

BRIDGE makes a practical acceleration push on such data sharing with all categories and types of intermodal stakeholders (LSPs, terminal, intermodal operators, RUs and IMs, digital platform providers) and will demonstrate the immediate benefits to the project participants as well as to the rest of the sector. The immediate benefits from participation in BRIDGE is the participants’ ability to improve operational efficiency, performance and punctuality based on systematically monitoring and analysing the train operations process and the accessibility of relevant train-related information to all (eligible and identifiable) stakeholders as defined in the current TAF TSI (the so-called Rotterdam clause). BRIDGE follows up on the work done under the ELETA Action as well as the works done by the Digital Train 1.0, Digital Train 2.0 and EDICT, all supported and co-funded in the CEF programme.

BRIDGE comprises three work packages, which address each one of the project’s immediate objectives, plus a fourth work package on the overall project coordination and dissemination.

• Work package 1 integrates all the components of the project management and of the dissemination/promotion activities. 
• Work package 2 focuses on a state-of-the-art analysis of the current best practices in data sharing. It includes a process and gap analysis in order to build the intermodal digital ecosystem of the future and, in addition, a survey on TSI Telematics readiness of Terminal Operators.
• Work package 3 concentrates all demonstration cases which have been clustered in three major categories: horizontal activities, vertical activities and data exchange formats / reference files. This is the most important work package and will cover over 69% of all requested resources, mainly due to the important investments needed in digital infrastructure (hardware/applications) to meet the requirements of WP2.

• Work package 4 provides guidelines and roadmaps towards an intermodal freight digital data sharing ecosystem. It compiles all results of WP2 and WP3 and transforms them into tangible recommendations towards the intermodal sector but also to the policy decision-making authorities. It represents 11% of the total resources needed.
